Prenatal Yoga April 30, 2011

::Prenatal classes are on hiatus as of November 1st. Please check back or email me at fannypriestATgmailDOTcome for more details on new offerings coming in January::

Pregnancy is a wonderful time to begin or recommit to a yoga practice.

New moms can begin to take Prenatal Yoga classes at any time during their pregnancy.  While the classes are gentle, and safe for most women, please check with your midwife or health practitioner to make sure they deem the practice is safe for you.

The main goals of the Prenatal Yoga classes are:

  • To provide a nurturing environment in which the students can develop community with other pregnant women.
  • To teach exercises and tools to help alleviate some of the common discomforts of pregnancy.
  • To teach breathwork and awareness techniques to help facilitate labor and delivery.
  • To provide a safe space in which students can connect with the wisdom of their own bodies, and with their babies.
  • To provide an opportunity for deep relaxation.

***

I also welcome health practitioners of all kinds–family doctors, OB-GYNs, midwives, acupuncturists, chiropractors, childbirth class educators, lactation consultants, massage therapists–who would like to recommend my classes to their clients to attend my classes free of charge. Your feedback on my classes is also greatly appreciated.

I am seven months pregnant..Can I start taking the classes? Is this a form of good excersie?

Hi Lina! This is a great time to start classes. At the moment, the classes focus more on stretching and relaxation–it’s too hot at 5:30 to do anything that would qualify as “exercise.” The best exercise is walking and swimming. But do check out the classes, they’re a lot of fun!
