beginner’s hatha yoga: This class is intended to serve the needs of both beginning and seasoned yoga students. Each week we will explore a particular aspect of the practice, refining and deepening our understanding of specific poses, philosophical concepts, breathwork, and ways in which the practice of yoga affects our everyday lives. Students can expect a well-rounded and safe active asana practice, and a lengthy, rejuvenating relaxation period.
Beginner’s Hatha Yoga classes are held on Saturdays at 10:30am, and last 90 minutes.

restorative yoga: This deeply healing and relaxing class is essentially naptime for adults. After a brief warm-up to smooth out the kinks in the body, we will experience long-held postures practiced close to the ground, with the use of various props and blankets to allow the body to fully relax. This class is suitable and beneficial for everyone, but especially for those experiencing stressful times, or recovering from illness or injury.
Restorative Yoga classes are held on Fridays at 6pm, and last 75 minutes.

My teaching style is primarily inspired and influenced by the Viniyoga teachings of Gary Kraftsow. (Although it should be noted that while my training was predominantly in the Viniyoga style, I am not certified in this method.) Viniyoga refers to an approach to Yoga that adapts the various means and methods of practice to the unique condition, needs and interests of the individual – giving each practitioner the tools to individualize and actualize the process of self-discovery and personal transformation.
This approach evolved out of the teachings transmitted by T. Krishnamacharya and T.K.V. Desikachar of Madras, India.
What is unique about Viniyoga?
1. The use of repetition into and out of postures in addition to holding postures.
2. The emphasis on function rather than form in asana practice, and the science of adapting the forms of the postures to achieve different results.
3. The emphasis on breath as the medium for movement in asana, and the science of adapting the pattern of breathing in asana to produce different effects.4. The refined art and science of combination which allows teachers to create sequences of different orientation, length, and intensity to suit the intention and context of each practice.
